PROJECT DETAILS:
James Gunn gave another brief update on the project via social media, where a fan asked if there were ever plans on a sequel, in which he replied that a sequel was talked about early on, but a movie moving forward at this point seems unlikely due to rights issues. Here's what he said: "I mean we talked about it early on. But the rights are all fucked up (I only own half) so it’s unlikely that it will ever happen." Adding to what Gunn said in the previous update, it seems like this sequel happening is very slim, at least for now. (4/8/24)
Producer James Gunn offered a brief update on this project, which fans will sadly find disappointing. He was asked via social media on the status of this sequel, in which he replied "No plans at all for this right now." It makes sense considering how busy he is at the moment, so it looks like fans will have to continue to wait for this sequel. (3/19/24)
No word if previous director David Yarovesky will return.
Actor Jackson A. Dunn (who played Brandon Breyer in the first film) has previously expressed interest in reprising his role.
H3 Entertainment CEO, Mark Rau, was quoted saying: "Incorporating new technologies into our workflow is about enhancing and complementing, not replacing the human touch in filmmaking. Our primary commitment remains with our skilled workforce. We are determined to use technology to assist, not overshadow, the irreplaceable human touch in cinema." Adding that the aim is to "introduce new revenue avenues through Web3 and the Metaverse, creating a fairer and more inclusive profit-sharing entertainment model for stakeholders like talent, fans, and IP holders to benefit and participate. Additionally, H3 Entertainment is developing ways to utilize AI to efficiently process entertainment data as well as introduce responsible usage of AI elements into the creative process."
Studio The H Collective (who produced the first film) is launching H3 Entertainment, which is a new company that will "look to integrate the Metaverse, Web3 and AI into a slate of films."
This is a sequel to 2019's supervillain horror movie Brightburn.
