A source at BD reports that director Felipe Vargas is no longer attached to the project. This is a rumor at the moment until something official is released. (3/28/25)

Director Felipe Vargas was on a recent podcast where he revealed that they're still trying work out the script, saying: "I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. It can just be gory, sexy, crazy. We’re still figuring out that tone. And the balance between horror and comedy. I would love for it to be scary as hell and also hilarious. I think we’re going back to a lot of the roots of Leprechaun in a lot of different ways, which I’m really excited about. But I think you also want to bring on a new audience. So it’s a really tricky one to figure out." (3/15/24)

Erin Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group was quoted saying: "Thirty years after its debut, this franchise still casts a spell, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back with a new vision." Adding... "Roy and Miri are two of our most trusted producers, especially with this genre, and we’re excited by Felipe’s vision for the film as a director. In his hands, this movie should be very scary and a ton of fun."

It's said that the film will use mostly practical effects.

This marks the feature film directorial debut of Felipe Vargas, who previously helmed the award-wining short film Milk Teeth.

Scripted by Mike Van Waes (live action Lilo & Stitch).

Warwick Davis is not expected to reprise his role as the Leprechaun.

The original movie spawned five sequels, all of which starred Warwick Davis as the Leprechaun. A direct sequel to the first movie was also made in 2018, which retconned the other sequels and starred Linden Porco as the new Leprechaun.

This is the second attempt at a remake, after the failed Leprechaun: Origins in 2014.

This is a remake of the 1993 film with the same name, which "reimagines the horror title for a new generation of moviegoers."
