Written/directed by Tyler Cornack (Butt Boy, Tiny Cinema), who was quoted saying: "Florida [is] a place that I find beautiful and hideous simultaneously, unpredictable, yet equally wild and free. Filled to the brim with dumbfounding characters and odd stories that come along with each of them. I suppose the geniuses came to me as a child, watching the beach bums slur their words at my family’s hotel tiki bar. Hearing the stories of alligators eating dogs and children. Always bouncing and blurring the lines between horrifying, surreal, and funny. That’s what I call Florida. And that’s what this movie is to me." Adding... "Beyond Florida, this story is about a loner. The Mermaid isn’t the only fish out of water, if you will… While writing it, it became extremely personal, not only in a career sense, but personally on many levels as well. I wouldn’t dare to bore you with the details, but in short, I think all of us have a little Doug in us."
