Filmed in England.
Writer/director Robert Eggers spoke briefly about the werewolf lore fans can expect from the film, saying: "Backpedaling away from influences and mythologies that do and don’t have to do with the film, the cool thing about going back into the past is that you can kind of hit a reset button. So all the clichés of being bitten by a werewolf and silver bullets and a lot of the stuff that has become almost campy doesn’t exist in the mythology of this movie. So you don’t need to have seen Lon Cheney Jr.’s The Wolf Man or An American Werewolf in London to get what’s going on here." (6/25/26)
Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse, The Northman, Nosferatu) is now in talks to join the cast, which would mark his fourth time working with director Robert Eggers. (7/17/25)
Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars, with Lily-Rose Depp (both were in Robert Eggers Nosferatu) in talks to also join the cast. (7/16/25)
Robert Eggers was at a recent event where he briefly spoke about the film's script, saying: "It’s a medieval werewolf movie. And it’s also the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far." (2/7/25)
It's said that Eggers originally planned on shooting the movie in black and white, but that's no longer the case.
Directed by Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Northman, Nosferatu).
Co-written by Sjón and Robert Eggers (duo behind The Northman).
It's said that the film's script features dialogue that's true to the time period and has translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English.
This is a werewolf movie that's reportedly set in 13th century England.
