PROJECT DETAILS:
Previously had a September 11th 2026 theatrical release before getting pushed back a month. (2/9/26)

Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice, Mickey 17) is in talks to star opposite Tom Rhys Harries. (7/22/25)

James Gunn offered some new details on the project in a recent podcast, revealing that the film will likely be rated R and goes on to explain how the movie came about and what fans can expect, saying: "I mean, it’s not anything now, because the MPA has to watch it. But it’s most likely rated R. It’s pretty intense." Adding... "Clayface was not on our [initial] checklist. But Mike [Flanagan] came in with a pitch for Clayface that was like, ‘Whoa. That is so cool.’ Then he wrote the screenplay and fulfilled doubly on that promise. The thing about Clayface that’s so cool is that Peter [Safran] and I, back when we were producing horror movies — The Belko Experiment, all these things — I’m like, ‘If we had gotten the script as a horror movie, not being part of the DCU at all.’ It’s like this amazing body horror film that we would jump at the chance to make. It’s just a great horror movie that is a great, smart, fun, fun horror movie in a genre that I happen to love, body horror." (6/20/25)

Tom Rhys Harries (The Gentlemen, White Lines, Suspicion, Kandahar, The Return) is set to play the Clayface character. (6/17/25)

Hossein Amini (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman, 47 Ronin, McMafia series, Ob-Wan Kenobi series) is reportedly set to rewrite Mike Flanagan's script. (5/6/25)

James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil remake) is set to direct, with filming aimed to begin sometime later this Year. (2/21/25)

Reportedly budgeted at $40 million.

Written by Mike Flanagan (Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep, Midnight Mass), who has also expressed interest in directing as well, but is currently busy with several other projects. In the past Flanagan has reportedly said he would do a standalone Clayface movie as a "horror/thriller/tragedy."

This is a live action standalone movie based around the DC Batman villain Clayface.
